Limits & fair use

Daily quotas keep Tori fast and the platform free. Here's what to expect at each plan.

Why limits exist

AI inference isn't free. Sensible daily caps mean we can keep a generous free tier, keep responses fast for everyone, and not pass the cost of one heavy user onto the rest of the user base.

Free

  • Generous daily message budget designed to cover normal study or planning use.
  • Counter resets at midnight in your local time.
  • Files-as-context allowed up to a small per-day limit (the rest of the platform's features still work).

Pro

  • Significantly larger daily budget — fits power users and finals weeks.
  • Higher attachments allowance.
  • Access to AI pre-review and AI-assisted grading on educator accounts.

Team & School

Workspaces and institutions get pooled budgets across their members, plus higher per-user ceilings. Need a custom envelope for a large district or a research project? Email [email protected].

Note

Plan-level entitlements are enforced fairly: heavy users on a pooled plan don't starve light users. If pool consumption gets unusual we may surface a per-user soft cap.

Rate limits

Independently of your daily budget, there's a per-minute rate limit so a single client can't flood the system. Rate limits trigger a brief cooldown (a few seconds) and the request retries automatically. If you see a sustained rate-limit error, slow down — usually the right move is to stop and look at why so many requests are firing.

Tip

Power users hitting daily caps before they expected to: open Settings → Tori usage to see what surfaces are consuming the most. Often a runaway agent is the culprit.
