Account types

The role you choose at sign-up sets up the right surfaces and the right Tori. Here's what each one does.

Student

Built for studying, asking questions, and turning in work. Students get:

  • Study mode with notes, decks, and Tori the tutor
  • Course enrollment, assignments, and quizzes
  • Co-study rooms with friends
  • Free forever for the core experience

Educator

For teachers, professors, TAs, and instructors at any level. Educators get:

  • Courses, assignments, and rubrics
  • SpeedGrader with optional AI-assisted grading
  • Tori for Educators — rubrics, quizzes, lesson plans, announcements
  • Roster management and join-by-link enrollment

Founder

For people running a small team, a startup, or a side project. Founders get:

  • A workspace they own (and can invite others to)
  • Projects, tasks, and agents
  • Billing controls and member management
  • The most permissive role inside their workspace

Team member

Anyone invited to an existing workspace. Capabilities depend on the workspace role they were invited at — owner, admin, manager, contributor, or viewer. See Roles & permissions for the matrix.

School admin

For IT staff and curriculum leads at schools, districts, and universities. Admins get:

  • An admin console with users, courses, and usage views
  • Single sign-on configuration
  • Bulk roster operations
  • Billing and plan management for the institution

Note

Admins do not read student chats or course content. They see counts, plans, and metadata only. See FERPA & student records.

Switching account type

From Settings → Account, change your role at any time. The surfaces you had access to before stay accessible if your new role permits them — the change is additive in most cases. If you're unsure, contact [email protected].

Tip

Joining a school account converts your role automatically. If you signed up as a personal student and your school later rolls SetFlow out, you'll keep your work and gain the school's features.
